8 week check up!

I got a few hours of kid free time today, the only down side is I had to go to my midwife appointment. Which normally are fine, but anyone who has had a baby knows the first one has all kinds of un-pleasantries.

But today I got to see the bean for the first time and see its tiny heart beat, beating away in there.

I also found out that Kaiser now does the new quad screening and I am getting mine next week. I had recently emailed Dr. Friedman (the specialist we had with Jonathan's pregnancy) and asked if Kaiser did this as routine and if I could get it "the next time around" and he said it wasn't likely. So I was very excited and surprised to hear Paula (my midwife) say she could order it for me for maybe a little piece of mind. If that come back with any irregularities they then send me into a Hig Definition Ultra Sound to check the skin at the back of the neck of the baby, basically a thickening is often a sign of a problem.

Paula also ordered the US, for just another added bit of piece of mind. It won't be the super high tech one we had with the specialist but the one just below that (to my knowledge). That should be in two weeks.

It was very exciting to see the bean. Hopefully as is as well as I think it is, we shall soon see I guess.

I'm glad you will be able to be so assured early on that the baby is healthy! My friend lost a baby, and during her next pregnancy she had several US and was given reassurance throughout that everything was OK! Let's get together soon!

I am so excited for you. I checked several times today to see how your appt. went. The beat of that tiny heart, what a special sight. Best of luck on the condition of your nerves over the next couple of weeks.

i am surprised they didn't do quad screening with jonathon. i specifically asked about quad last fall with hannah and they said yes they did it, FINALLY, as cali was the last state to get quad screening (through kaiser). then again, they also told me back in cotober that my prenatal vitamins were discontinued, and i saw a huge bin of them at the pharmacy today. LIARS.

i am so excited for you and keeping my fingers crossed for a healthy BB (baby buquet)! glad you get the extra tests too. nice to have that peace of mind early and get some extra pictures of BB to boot.

Hooray for a good checkup. I hope it continues that way for you. By the by, I never heard anything back from that HR gal... she's been a bit crazy recently. If you want I can forward you the website so you can see if they post any new jobs. It's a growing place, unlike lots of places around here...

I'm so glad you got to see your baby! I will never forget our first ultrasounds with this baby (about 7 weeks, I think). She looked like a little fried egg in there, but she was thumping -well, her heart was-and that was such a relief.
Hey, you say you have Kaiser and your midwife is Paula? Does she happen to go on trips sometimes to places like Afghanistan? If so, my sister had her as a midwife and absolutely loved her. Paula has even visited my sister in her current resident in London.

Thanks everyone.

Amy- Yes, Paula does do missionary trips though I have not heard from her, I heard from a pharmasist who was filling my Rx and was trying to figured out, like you if she was one in the same. I asked her later. She is GREAT and I have had her through all my pregnancies for going on 4 years. I hope she actually gets to deliver me this time! :)
